Dear LISD Staff, Parents, Students, and Community Partners,

The Lackland Independent School District Calendar Committee met on Thursday, January 22, 2026 to draft the 2027-2028 District Calendar and recommend an update to the 2026-2027 District Calendar. I have attached both calendars for your review.

The proposed change to the 2026-2027 Instructional Calendar (not this year’s school calendar) adds two professional development days to the beginning of the school year that were previously not on the calendar. These days are August 10th and 11th. The purpose of these additional days is to support teacher development as we adopt new curriculum standards from the state. These additional days will become student only holidays. We are also proposing to change October 12, 2026, to a trade day for teachers and staff. It was a regular professional development day.

The 2027-2028 Instructional Calendar is similar to the 2026-2027 calendar but may be revised based on campus needs in the future.

We would like you to review both calendars (attached) and provide any feedback you may have concerning the recommendations. The following process will be followed to facilitate the approval of the 2027-2028 draft calendar and updated proposed 2026-2027 calendar:

1. After receiving feedback from stakeholders, a decision will be made whether to reconvene the calendar committee to address any major concerns.
2. The calendars will then go to the Lackland ISD District Education Improvement Council (DEIC) for review and approval. The DEIC will meet on Monday, February 23, 2026.
3. The recommended calendar will then go to the Lackland ISD Board of Trustees for their consideration and approval on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. The board has the authority to change the calendar.
4. The calendars will be disseminated and posted on the district website after it has been approved.

Please remember that the calendar is subject to change and can only be changed by the LISD Board of Trustees.
