Happy Thanksgiving

As we move into this season of Thanksgiving, it’s easy to let the challenges around us steal the spotlight—rising prices, political chaos, and the daily stresses we all feel. But this time of year invites us to pause, look around, and recognize the abundance of good that still surrounds us. When we take a moment to count our blessings, one by one, we realize just how much we have to be grateful for.
I’m thankful that we are here—together. And I am especially thankful for each of you. Our teachers, support staff, technology teams, administrators, nurses, cafeteria workers, custodians, bus drivers, maintenance workers, and central office staff: you make up the heart of Lackland ISD. Your dedication shines every day, and the passion and love you pour into our students is truly something to celebrate. We are a community rich in kindness, teamwork, and purpose, and that is a gift.
I am also deeply grateful for our families and for the courageous men and women of the Armed Services. Their service protects our nation, and their trust in us to care for and educate their children is an honor we hold with the utmost respect.
As Thanksgiving approaches, I wish you a joyful, restful holiday surrounded by the people who bring warmth to your life. May you find moments of peace, laughter, and renewal during this well-deserved break. Please stay safe, take good care of yourselves, and enjoy the time away.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, December 1, 2025, refreshed and ready for the season ahead.
Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🍁

Every year, American Education Week is held a week before Thanksgiving. This year, it starts on November 17 and ends on November 21. Have you ever wondered how American education grew to be what it is now? American Education Week is celebrated to remind and reinspire us to make education in America even better, as we celebrate the pace-setting contributors to the educational system. This week involves the students, parents, educators, scholarships, and the community as they all come together to observe a week dedicated to education.
American Education Week continues annually in every U.S. community to present the achievements and needs of the local public schools and secure support for meeting these needs. It is celebrated with a different theme each year and follows a structure set up by NEA, with an activity created specially for each day.
Monday is the Kick-off Day, celebrating the start of the week by familiarizing students with the theme, activities, and purpose of the event. Tuesday is Family Day, where parents will be invited to actively experience how a school day goes for their children. This has been shown to improve student performance in school. Wednesday is Education Support Professionals Day, a day to celebrate a school’s support staff. Thursday is Educator For A Day. On this day, community leaders will be invited to work as an employee in the school, performing all the duties of a teacher for a full day. Friday is Substitute Educators Day. This day celebrates people who are always available to replace regular teachers when there is a sudden emergency or temporary leave.

NATIONAL EDUCATION SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS DAY
Wednesday, November 19, 2025
Annually observed on the Wednesday during American Education Week, National Education Support Professionals Day honors the contributions of school support employees. These support professionals provide invaluable services and are essential partners in a child's education.
The day honors a long list of professionals who keep schools running smoothly. They include all secretaries, classroom aides, cafeteria workers, maintenance workers, bus drivers, and the others who support educators, school leadership, and the students, too. These professionals do their part in making public schools exceptional for every child so they can be safe, learn, grow and achieve. A huge thank you to all of the support staff at Lackland ISD! You make our world go around!

ParentSquare

Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.

ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:

*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app
*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events
*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items
*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents

For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app. The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store. If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well. ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal. Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.
Parent Square Notifications

Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.

Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.
Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.

The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message.

From Student to Teacher! Ms. Parham

parham
By: Gianna Kenneally, 9th grade
Kiana Parham graduated from Stacey in 2015. She graduated from UTSA and, after a couple of years as a paraprofessional teacher’s aide, and is now teaching 6th and 7th grade math at Stacey Jr. / Sr. High.

What’s the biggest difference in Stacey since you were a student here?
The biggest difference from when I was a student is probably all the cool upgrades the school has made like the deck and the auditorium, but overall it’s still pretty similar. I’m still able to see and work with some of my past teachers such as Mr. Keller, Mrs. Cashion, Mrs. Wann and Mr.P.
What is your favorite classroom call and response phrase?
I don’t really have a set call and response phrase that I use. I prefer to get students’ attention in different ways depending on the moment. Sometimes it’s a countdown, sometimes it’s a hand signal, or sometimes it’s just pausing and waiting for them to quiet down.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
If I could have any superpower I would choose teleportation. Being able to instantly travel from one place to another would save so much time and stress. I wouldn’t have to sit in traffic, wait for flights, or worry about being late. I could visit family and friends whenever I wanted no matter how far away they lived. Teleportation would also let me visit amazing places in seconds. I could watch the sunrise in Paris, have lunch on a beach in Thailand, and be back home by dinner.
How long have you been at Stacey?
I began working at Stacey as a substitute in 2022. After subbing for about 2 months, I was offered a full-time position as an instructional aide which I worked as up until this current school year.
Who or what inspired you to become a teacher?
Teaching wasn’t what I originally planned to do, but once I started working at the school that all changed. Being around students and seeing their energy, personalities, and the little moments of growth inspired me in a way I didn’t expect. The more I worked with them them the more I wanted to be able to help and make a difference in their lives. That’s when I knew I wanted to become a teacher. It gave me a purpose I hadn’t been looking for, but one I truly feel passionate about now.
Where did you grow up?
I am a military child myself, so I grew up all around the world. I was born in Germany, and have lived in Kansas, Utah, and many different places in Texas.
What is your favorite book?
I don’t really have one favorite book. Each new story that I read becomes my favorite in that moment.
What university/college did you go to?
I went to UTSA where I majored in Public Health.
Thank you Ms. Parham!

Library Scoop

Such a wonderful week of feasting, poetry, writing and a funny puppet show! Our second, third and fourth graders had a taste of being puppeteers, and they were a joy to watch! All of our students wrote a sentence about what they are thankful for on a leaf.
It is exciting to see our students stretch and grow and become capable, caring leaders at school. I am hoping everyone will take a little time to read over their holiday break and few moments to recharge so we can continue to grow and learn in December...Happy reading!

Gifted and Talented

Hello Gifted Families! 🍂

November is here — a time for gratitude, reflection, and maybe even a little sweater weather (if Texas decides to cooperate)! As we move into the heart of the semester, here are a few things to keep in mind:
✨ Mid-Semester Check-In
We’re just past the halfway mark of the semester! Parent-Teacher Conferences this month are a great opportunity to check in on how your child is doing — not just academically, but socially and emotionally, too. These conversations can help ensure your gifted learner continues to feel challenged, supported, and inspired.
🍁 Seasonal Family Fun
November is perfect for slowing down and enjoying meaningful family moments — baking together, exploring local history, volunteering, or even starting a gratitude journal as a family. These simple experiences can spark curiosity, empathy, and deep thinking in your child.
💡 GT Referral Reminder
The Gifted and Talented referral window is still open through the end of November! If you think your child may benefit from GT services, please complete the referral form below:
Wishing you a warm, reflective, and joy-filled November full of learning and gratitude!

The Fix-It Challenge
Identify a small problem at home
(something inefficient, annoying, or
messy). Brainstorm and test a solution
using only items in your house.
Tip: Encourage learners to take risks and
try unexpected ideas to find a solution.

Clarity
Gifted learners often excel in academics, but giftedness goes beyond grades and test scores. It includes how they think, feel, and perceive the world. These children often process information quickly, make complex connections, and ask thought-provoking questions. Recognizing these traits at home can help you support their curiosity, even if it doesn’t always show up as straight A’s.

Mrs. Martinez is very happy to be here at Lackland ISD.
Dawn Bluhm is celebrating 19 years of being a Speech-Language Pathologist. Coming from a military family, when her family arrived in San Antonio, they made it their permanent home. She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from UTSA, and a Master of Arts from Our Lady of the Lake University in Communication Disorders. Mrs. Bluhm spent 11 of her 19 years specializing in alterative and augmentative communication strategies.
