National IT Professionals Day is celebrated on the third Tuesday of each September and was established in 2015 to honor the IT professionals who do the critical but often unseen work to keep our networks and applications running. Please pause and recognize the incredible work our IT team does every single day. Technology is at the heart of everything we do, and when things go wrong—as they sometimes do—it’s our IT professionals who jump in, troubleshoot, and keep us moving forward. While the rest of us may feel the stress of technology hiccups, we are truly grateful that we have a team of experts who not only can solve the problem but actually want to take it on. That’s a gift, and it allows the rest of us to focus on our work knowing we’re in capable hands.
Please take a moment today to send a thank you, share a kind word, or simply let our IT team know how much we value their patience, persistence, and problem-solving skills.
Happy IT Professionals’ Day!

Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.
ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:
*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app
*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events
*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items
*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents
For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app. The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store. If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well. ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal. Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.
Parent Square Notifications
Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.
Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.
Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.
The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message.

Here’s a shout out to Mrs. Elena Henson, second grade teacher, who just received her ESL certification! Congratulations! |
Today our students learned a little about Polynesian culture. We talked about leis, sampled a small taste of coconut, and played a fun relay game inspired by the teamwork and rhythm found in Polynesian traditions. The kids had a great time learning, tasting, and moving — and we loved seeing them work together and show curiosity about a new culture. We’re looking forward to sharing more experiences with them next week!
|
This week my students enjoyed modeling decimals to the thousandths and a relay race on the track to show how they can represent the decimal numbers in multiple forms with the numbers they created during their race! We also got creative during Eagle Time integrating Hispanic Heritage Month by tying in a book about the life of Frida Kahlo to our weekly skill-Making Connections.

Today in math our students worked together on a hands-on word problem activity. Each group received a set of cut-up strips from a word problem. They had to work as a team to put the parts of the problem in order, decide what the question was asking, identify what math operation they needed to use, and figure out what information was given.
After putting the pieces together, students used the strip diagram strategy to solve the word problems. This activity helped them practice reading carefully, organizing information, and deciding how to solve real-world math problems step by step.

I wanted to thank you for helping make our first SFSF class a success! I also want to mention Jesse and Tommy as they were both very helpful in making sure we had what we needed!
We had 7 families attend with a total of 26 people. I consider this a great success. The families were very engaged as we connected through get-to-know-you BINGO, talked through the lesson on connecting with your kids, and created family collages.
If any of the staff ever want to attend to see what SFSF is all about, they are very welcome!

We love our readers! Second graders are working hard to build their fluency while learning how to compare and contrast. Our fabulous counselors visited students during their library class this week to discuss the importance of honesty. Students checked out great books, too. We will have a special delivery next week from Literati Book Fairs. Our fall Book Fair will begin Monday, September 29th and will continue through Friday, October 3rd. We will have wonderful books, some pencils and erasers, and posters for sale. You may look at the items offered in the flyers that will go home next week, or explore our on-line fair @literati.com/store and follow the prompts to Lackland Elementary. The on-line fair will be open until the close of the physical fair. Happy reading!
