Notice of & Consent for School Counseling Services

Posted Date: 9/04/25 (4:00 PM)

In accordance with law, the district is required to notify parents of staff services related to school counseling and to provide parents the opportunity to opt out before such services are provided to their child. Parents will be given the option to consent to all mental health-related counseling services and classroom guidance lessons, or to select between the two.
Parents and guardians hold the fundamental right to make decisions regarding the upbringing and care of their child. The school’s role is to serve as a supportive partner in that effort by providing effective academic instruction to maximize student learning. To further that goal, the school also seeks to promote the general well-being of students so they remain focused on their academic responsibilities. Teachers and other school employees may periodically inquire about a student’s well-being (for example, asking how a student is feeling). In certain circumstances, more formalized support may be appropriate. If that occurs, the school’s intent is to provide services in a manner consistent with the parent’s goals and preferences.
An additional level of support offered to all students is through whole-class guidance lessons. These lessons are designed to be skill- and citizenship-based, reinforcing positive character traits and essential life skills.
For the purpose of transparency, a “Year at a Glance” outlining classroom guidance skills and character lessons has been attached. Parents are encouraged to contact the school counselors with any questions regarding this form or the counseling program in general.
