My name is Maria T. Compton. I was born and raised in San Antonio. I graduated from John F. Kennedy

High School and attended Our Lady of the Lake University where I majored in Communication Disorders

and Child Psychology. I went on to get my teaching certificate from the UTSA. I have been teaching

since 1998. I started out in general education where I taught grades from Kinder to 3 rd . Eventually, I

made the switch into Special Education and I got my Master’s degree from Grand Canyon University.

I have been happily married for a while and we share 3 resilient children. I am typically a quiet, but

carefree person. I love to read mystery and suspense novels and watching those types of movies as well.

During my free time, I enjoy working on puzzles and playing with my dogs.

I am excited and grateful to begin working with the Lackland ISD community and look forward to many

wonderful years.

I am happy to be back at Lackland Elementary! I am a military spouse and have been blessed with the opportunity to teach in many different places! For the second time I am back in Texas at Lackland Elementary teaching 5th grade. I started teaching in 2007 and have taught 4th, 5th, and Special Education (3rd to 8th).

I have a Master’s in Linguistically Diverse Education. I grew up in a small town outside of Dallas, TX and am excited to be back in my home state. I have two kids and two dogs, who keep me busy when not in school!

I look forward to working with all of you this year! I have high expectations for not only my students but for myself. I am excited for the year of growth we are going to have!

Hello, my name is Rebecca Owens! I am originally from New Bern, North Carolina and graduated from William Peace University in 2021 with a major in elementary education with a dual licensure in special education. I taught 5th grade in North Carolina and at Lackland prior to moving to special education.

I love the creativity and problem solving that comes with teaching. Each child is unique and makes connections in their own ways. As teachers it is our job to identify a student's best path to success and make it happen. I love being apart of the Lackland family where we all work together for the better of our staff and students.

My name is Blanca Sanchez; I am a native Texan! I have lived in Texas all of my life with the exception of our 6 year duty station in Georgia. I have worked with children since I was in high school; I worked at our local Boys and Girls Club after school tutoring younger students. I always knew I wanted to work with children and while a great deal of that time was in middle and high school, I have now thoroughly enjoyed working with the students at Lackland Elementary. I love what I do and cannot imagine doing anything else! I am married to a retired Air Force Veteran and have one amazing child. I have been working in Special Education in some capacity since 2005. I enjoy spending time with my family and three dogs during my spare time.

Hello, my name is Sheree Washington! I am a Southern girl at heart, and I am originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. As a former Air Force now DV spouse, I’ve been blessed to live in Florida, Japan, Korea, Ohio, and Virginia, and now we are proud to call San Antonio home. from the University of Dayton with a Master of Science in Transdisciplinary Early Childhood Education and dual licensure in special education. I taught preschool and 2nd grade in Virginia and 2nd and 4th grade for DoDEA in Okinawa, Japan, before moving to special education.

One of my favorite quotes comes from Rita Pierson, an educator from Houston, Texas, who said, “Every child deserves a champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be.” I hope to be that for your child. My expectations are high for myself and the students of Lackland ISD, and I am very enthusiastic about the learning and growth that will take place this year. I am deeply committed to ensuring your child's education is a top priority. Let us work together to make this the best year ever!
