Honoring Our Military Families: Lackland ISD Celebrates National School Parent Group Day
At Lackland Independent School District, our community is built on a foundation of unique strength, resilience, and service. This National School Parent Group Day, Lackland ISD extends its deepest gratitude to the extraordinary parents, guardians, and parent-led groups who actively shape the educational experience on our campuses.
Parent groups, including our dedicated parent-teacher organizations and volunteer committees, serve as a vital bridge between home life and the classroom. In a military environment where families frequently navigate transitions, deployments, and new beginnings, our parent groups provide a welcoming sense of stability and community. They are the welcoming faces for new families, the coordinators behind campus events, and the ultimate advocates for our students' academic and emotional well-being.

Learning to Be Prepared: A Day of Emergency Preparedness
Our students had an exciting and educational opportunity to learn the importance of being prepared for emergencies, thanks to the JBSA Installation Office of Emergency Management, our School Librarians, and their special mascot, Phelix!
Held in recognition of September’s National Preparedness Month, the event provided students with age-appropriate presentations and engaging, hands-on activities designed to help them understand what it means to be prepared and how they can play an important role in keeping themselves and others safe.
Students participated in interactive learning experiences, explored emergency preparedness concepts, and had opportunities to ask questions and demonstrate what they learned. The fun continued with prizes and special swag bags for student participants, adding an extra element of excitement to an already memorable day.
We are especially grateful to the JBSA Installation Office of Emergency Management for sharing their time, expertise, and enthusiasm with our students. A special thank-you also goes to our school librarians for helping bring this valuable learning experience to our campus—and, of course, to Phelix for bringing plenty of school spirit and fun to the event!
Experiences like this help our students build knowledge and confidence while reinforcing an important message: being prepared is something everyone can do.

Because Lackland ISD serves a unique military community on Joint Base San Antonio, the district partners closely with the Joint Base San Antonio School Liaison Office. This connection provides extra support, counseling resources, and smooth transitions for families moving in and out of the district.

The Stacey Junior High Red Team celebrated their second home-game victory of the season this Monday! The team showed great teamwork and determination throughout the game. Congratulations to our Red Team on another exciting win!

Wound Care Lab Skill Day
During today’s Thursday Skills Day, students learned and practiced the proper technique for dressing and packing a wound.
Students were introduced to the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment, using appropriate supplies, following proper infection-control procedures, and handling wound-care materials correctly. They practiced carefully dressing and packing a wound while focusing on proper technique, patient safety, and attention to detail.
This hands-on activity allows students to build confidence and develop practical skills that are important in the healthcare field.
AFJROTC Cadets Live the Core Values alongside Elite Air Force MTIs
Stacey AFJROTC cadets saw military core values brought to life yesterday during a drill session with the U.S. Air Force’s finest Military Training Instructors (MTIs). 🎯
Exposed to standard-setting professionalism, the cadets focused on strengthening the primary pillars of our program: confidence, team cohesion, and solid foundational discipline. The visit provided a powerful lesson in respect and selflessness, demonstrated by the fact that every MTI voluntarily donated their personal off-time to mentor our students.👏
Together, we are shaping leaders and building a legacy of excellence. 🦅
Meet Mr. Newlun!

Please welcome Jared Newlun to the Stacey science department! A Washington native, Mr. Newlun teaches Physics, Chemistry and Environmental Systems classes.
1. Where did you grow up? I grew up in Tacoma Washington for the largest part of my childhood, but before that I was a military brat, so I grew up all over.
2. Where did you go to college? I went to WGU.
3. How long have you been teaching? I have been teaching for 12 years
4. What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is either the Matrix or Casino. Different moods call for different vibes.
5. Do you have a favorite music artist? My favorite music artist changes as my tastes change. I really like The Be Good Tanyas or Nine Inch Nails
6. What is your favorite subject to teach? I love teaching chemistry, because it's so interesting.
7. What is one hobby you have? I like board games. Not like monopoly. But like Splendor or Lords of Waterdeep.
8. What is your favorite place you've ever visited? I love snow camping up on Mt. Rainier. The view is unbeatable.
9. What amazes you the most about science? What amazes me about science is how good of a tool it is. The best rigorous system mankind has developed to identify the why and how of almost everything in the universe.

Library Scoop
We are excited about our Book Fair coming up next week! Literati has sent us a wonderful collection of books for our shopping next week. Students will get a chance to peek during their library time, and all are welcome to visit after school for our Family Nights! Flyers were sent home with details about the Book Fair that begins on Monday and wraps up on Friday (September 28th - October 2nd). We also have information shared on Parent Square. Let's read Eagles!
Students have learned a little bit of Spanish in our library classes with our littles for Hispanic Heritage Month. The students in PreK - First grade made a house with shapes, "mi casa." Our upper grade Eagles discovered Frida Kahlo and enjoyed a slide presentation. Our Kinder and second graders had a great visit from the safety representatives for JBSA on Thursday and met Felix the Phoenix. What an awesome day!
A big thank you to Mrs. Clark! We will miss this dedicated volunteer that has helped so much in the library!
