Bots in Blue at UIL State
We are pleased to provide this report on the exceptional performance of the Stacey High School BEST robotics team, known as the Stacey Bots in Blue, at the recent UIL State Championships held in Dallas. This event, which brought together teams from across Texas, showcased the dedication and talent of our students in a highly competitive environment. Their accomplishments not only highlight individual excellence but also reflect the collective support of our school community.
Performance Highlights:
The Stacey Bots in Blue demonstrated remarkable skill and resilience throughout the competition. In the 1A-2A category, which encompasses 442 schools statewide, our team secured fourth place, positioning them in the 99.32 percentile. This ranking underscores their status among the elite performers in this division.
Expanding to the broader competition, which included the 1390 schools of all sizes from 1A to 6A, the team achieved an impressive 13th place overall, placing them in the 99.14 percentile across the entire state.
These percentiles illustrate the team’s superior capabilities, as they outperformed the vast majority of participants through strategic execution and technical proficiency in demanding 3-minute rounds.
Preparation and Effort:
The path to this success was paved by months of rigorous preparation. Beginning in the early fall, the students invested countless hours in designing innovative robotic systems, constructing durable prototypes, programming sophisticated algorithms, and mastering precise driving techniques under time constraints.
This process required not only technical expertise but also collaborative problem-solving and adaptability to simulate real-world engineering challenges. Their commitment involved after-school sessions, weekend workshops, and iterative testing to refine every aspect of their robot’s performance. Such dedication fostered personal growth, resilience, and a deep understanding of STEM principles, equipping them for future academic and professional pursuits.
Representation and Recognition:
The Stacey Bots in Blue represented themselves, their families, and Stacey High School with the utmost professionalism and integrity. Their conduct exemplified the values of Lackland ISD, inspiring peers and spectators alike. It was a profound honor for Mrs. Huerta, Mr. Bramlett, and Mr. Kinsey to guide and witness this journey. Observing the students’ growth both personally and experientially, from initial concepts to triumphant execution—has been a rewarding testament to the fruits of their labor and the supportive environment provided by our community.
In conclusion, this achievement at the UIL State Championships is a milestone that celebrates the hard work of our students and the unwavering encouragement from their families and Stacey staff. We extend our sincere gratitude to all for your involvement and look forward to continued success in future endeavors.
Stacey Senior Selected for First Tee Leadership Academy
by: Eliana Flores, 11th grade
Tristyn Myrick recently had the honor of attending the First Tee Drive Your Future Academy sponsored by John Deere in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Out of eighty applicants, only thirty-six young women were selected, and she was truly grateful to be part of such a special experience.
The academy focuses on empowering young women who are making a positive impact in their chapters, schools, and communities. At the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, participants learned from inspiring women who led workshops on networking, mentorship, self-awareness, and empathy.
Some of the highlights included a welcome reception and fireside chat with Kathryn Newton; an Advocating for Yourself and Others session and Embracing Self-Awareness session with John Deere; the A Walk in Her Shoes session with Accenture; a Cultivating Meaningful Relationships session with CapTech; and a Roadmap to Successful Mentorship session with Sara Young.
✨ Tristyn extends a huge thank-you to the incredible women who shared their time and stories:
• Leslee Hager – John Deere
• Kathryn Newton – First Tee Ambassador and Actress
• Whitney Olmsted & Martine Kostanich – CapTech
• Deb Dahlmann – Accenture
• Sara A. Young – Facilitator and First Tee alumna ✨
She also played twelve holes at The Yards Golf Course, which was both beautiful and a lot of fun. ⛳️ Later, she visited the University of North Florida for the Osprey Challenge Course—another unforgettable experience. The week concluded with a Catamaran Lunch Cruise on Sabrage, where the girls enjoyed the ocean breeze and even spotted dolphins, followed by an evening exploring downtown St. Augustine and a wonderful dinner. 🐬🛥️
Tristyn is beyond grateful for the opportunities that First Tee has given her over the years. She will carry these memories and lessons with her throughout the rest of her life. 🌟
