Join Us in Celebrating Public Schools Week February 23-27, 2026

It’s an annual week-long celebration dedicated to honoring the invaluable contributions and achievements of educators and education advocates in our public schools and the communities they serve. Led by the Learning First Alliance (LFA), a coalition of 11 national education groups with a collective membership exceeding 10 million, Public Schools Week invites the education community, parents, lawmakers and others to join us in spotlighting our nation’s public schools and the dedicated individuals behind them. We invite you to join us in celebrating and supporting our public schools during Public Schools Week and all year long.
Research consistently demonstrates that parents and community members are largely supportive of their local public schools, recognizing the vital role educators play in preparing children for success in an evolving world. Public Schools Week aims to showcase the dynamic things happening in public schools, how we are responding to current and post-pandemic challenges, and the invaluable lessons learned, ultimately contributing to the ongoing improvement of K-12 education.

School Attendance Matters

Dear Parents and Guardians,
At Lackland ISD, we are committed to providing every student with the highest quality education and the opportunities they need to succeed. One of the most important factors in student success is consistent, daily school attendance.
Regular attendance helps students build strong academic foundations, develop positive habits, and stay connected to their teachers and peers. When students miss school, even occasionally, they can fall behind in learning and may struggle to catch up. Over time, missed instructional time can have a significant impact on student achievement, graduation readiness, and long-term success.
We have recently seen a decline in student attendance across our district, and we need your partnership and support to help reverse this trend. Your encouragement and commitment to ensuring your child attends school every day, on time, makes a meaningful difference.
In Texas, student attendance is also directly tied to school funding. School districts receive funding based on daily student attendance. When students are absent, it not only affects their individual learning but also reduces resources that support teachers, academic programs, student services, and extracurricular opportunities for all students.
While daily attendance is critical, student health and safety remain a top priority. If your child is sick, please keep them at home so they can recover and to help prevent the spread of illness to others. Once they are well, we encourage them to return to school as soon as possible and communicate with their campus to make up any missed work.
Working together, we can ensure that our students are present, engaged, and prepared for success. Thank you for your continued partnership, support, and commitment to your child’s education and to the success of our entire school community.
If you have questions or need assistance with attendance concerns, please contact your child’s campus. We are here to help.
Sincerely,

Dr. Burnie Roper
Superintendent

Lackland ISD continues to strive toward improving communication.

ParentSquare is a communication platform. Through the platform, you’ll be able to:

*Receive all district, school, and classroom communication via email, text, or app
*View the school and classroom calendar and RSVP for events
*Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items
*Securely receive important documents like report cards and other student documents

For the best ParentSquare experience, we recommend that you download and install the app. The name is ParentSquare, and it can easily be found in your device’s app store. If you don’t have a device, no need to worry: the platform is capable of both text and email, and you can log on via the web as well. ParentSquare receives its contact information from the Ascender Parent Portal. Please take a moment to make sure that you have the latest contact information on file there.
Parent Square Notifications

Under General Announcements, you can select how often you want to receive notifications for posts. Select Off, Instant or Digest notifications.

Off:no notifications about posts will be sent to you. Emergency Alerts and Notices will still be sent. School Alerts will still be sent if turned on.
Instant:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification every time a notice or message is sent.
Digest:you'll receive an email and/or text and/or an app notification once a day in the evening with all posts from that day.

The default setting is typically Digest, so that you receive all notices and post messages in one convenient notification once a day. All emergency notifications still come through instantly, and a school can override settings as needed for an urgent message.

Welcome Back Stacey Swim Team!

by: Brooke Voorhees, 9th grade

Our returning swim team's first season back has officially come to an end. Sponsored by Ms. Danielle Dylinski and supported by The Alamo Swim Club. The Alamo Area Aquatic Association location where the students practiced was 1 Trinity PI, San Antonio, Texas. The members who represented Stacey were siblings. Gabriel Garcia, a freshman, and Roel Garcia, a junior. The boys had a wonderful season where they competed in both the 50 meter and 100 meter freestyle. Swim will continue to be offered next year for anyone looking to join! What is the most difficult part of swimming competitively?

Library Scoop

Getting ready for a great visit with author/illustrator Don Tate! Students are enjoying his books and illustrations. Our students read poems chorally to start their lesson and learned about the Family Literacy Project, too. The week before spring break is Read Across America, and we will be celebrating books and reading with our Bottle Buddies and dress up days! All are invited to decorate a water or soda bottle like a book character or as the image of a famous person you can read about in a biography. Each participant will receive a free book. Whoo hoo!

Don Tate will share his talent and his story with us on Tuesday, March 3rd. Students that bring in a book written or illustrated by Don Tate will get an autograph. Big fun!

Greetings To Our GT Community

Happy February! As we step into this month of love, kindness, and community, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and involvement in your child’s educational journey. February brings exciting opportunities for learning and connection, from engaging classroom activities to special events that celebrate growth and creativity.

The State Goal for Gifted Service reads:
"Students who participate in services designed for gifted/talented students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment. High School graduates who have participated in services for gifted/talented students will have produced products and performances of professional quality as part of their program services."

Texas State Plan for Gifted & Talented Students

GT Service in LISD

Our GT students are served in a variety of ways, depending on the campus and grade level. Our ultimate goal is to make learning fun and challenging for each of our students, while helping them to grow their critical thinking skills.
Class work and projects for GT students should never be MORE work; it should be DIFFERENT work! This is the heart of differentiated instruction. Our teachers provide differentiated instruction to our GT students throughout the school day. The information below is a simple introduction to what differentiated instruction is.

Registration is now open for KLRN's Play and Learn program!

Play & Learn offers families (with young children) an opportunity to connect in a family-friendly, educational environment. At each session, participants receive children’s books, take-home activities, and materials to use in their homes.

Families meet once a week to participate in parallel play experiences, and explore PBS KIDS programs, apps and resources. Families also attend workshops that explore integrating science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) at home, and learn about developmental milestones.

This year, we have three locations around town for families to attend:

Tuesdays starting March 24
City of San Antonio SE Service Center
1318 SE Loop 410 ACC Rd.
San Antonio, TX 78220

Thursdays starting March 26
Maverick Library, 8700 Mystic Park

Wednesdays starting April 15
Region 20, 1314 Hines
San Antonio, TX 78208
