This is the image for the news article titled GT Summer Camp Fun     During the week of August 7-10, Lackland elementary students who are part of the gifted and talented program had the opportunity to participate in one of two camps offered free of charge at the school. The “Coding with Robots Camp” was for incoming 2nd and 3rd graders, and the “Gamer Entrepreneur Camp” was for incoming 4th and 5th graders. Students in the coding camp learned computer programming to control the actions of their robots and wrote programs to have them perform simple tasks. Students in the gamer camp designed their very own video game from beginning to end, creating heroes and villains, obstacles/hazards, backgrounds, challenges, and story lines. At the end of the week, parents were invited in to watch presentations from the robot group, and hear marketing pitches from the gamer group. The students worked hard and did a fantastic job. We can’t wait for next year!
